A FAIR Education in California

In December 2010, bill SB 48 also known as the Fair, Accurate, Inclusive, and Respectful (FAIR) Educational Act was introduced to amend the Education codes in California.  On April 14, 2011, California’s Senate passed SB48, and Legislature is currently scheduled to rule on this bill on June 29, 2011.  The FAIR Educational Act was authored and introduced by gay Democrat Senator Mark Leno.  This bill would amend the current law that requires instruction in social sciences to include the studies of the roles in contributions of both men and women to the development of California to also include contributions of Native Americans, African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, European Americans, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans, persons with disabilities, and members of other ethnic or cultural groups, with particular emphasis on portraying the role of these groups as a contemporary part of society.  This essay will focus primarily on the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender group that SB48 will be including.
