Cancel Culture: Fear as Capital

There are a few ways one can define themselves as a human being. We huddled together in caves, and brought down the largest of prey and have built up our understanding of science and math through generations of research and development. From the beginning, we have evolved as a species to achieve more than any other on the planet. This would be entirely impossible without community. To “cancel” someone can be described as: “They want to take away their power or their cultural capital. They want to diminish their significance, whether it’s a personal boycott or a public shaming.” In ancient times, this would have been a death sentence. In modern times, it can be a professional death sentence. Cancel culture is a double-edged sword that has given the consumers autonomy through the use of technology.
